Headteachers' Welcome

An introductory letter from our new Headteacher:

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an honour it is to be the Headteacher at Queen Emma’s Primary School! I am hugely impressed by the children’s enthusiasm and love of learning and am looking forward to leading a school where teaching standards are driven ever-higher by the application of education research.

I have a range of life- experiences that I bring to Queen Emma’s school, including thirteen years as a primary school teacher (Nursery, KS1 and KS2) and fourteen years as a research scientist in the U.K., America and Japan. I have always been fascinated by how brains learn, and much of my research career I spent looking at the changes that happen when we learn. I am still driven to find out the best way that children learn, and believe Queen Emma’s school can ensure every child receives a transformational education. As a school leader, I have led improvements in English, Maths, Science, Computing, Religious Education and Music.  I am inspired by every aspect of the curriculum we teach and intend to encourage a love of learning in all subject areas for every child.

I passionately support the school vision – education must be inspirational – and Queen Emma’s school has developed a new curriculum that will enable every child to find something exciting and engaging. As a researcher in Neuroscience, I understood the theory of how brains learn, but as teachers at Queen Emma’s we bring that research to life. Our aim is to inspire children in every lesson.

The school values of courage, honesty, respect and friendship are something that you will find wherever you look at Queen Emma’s alongside the values of democracy, rule of law, liberty and mutual respect. Here you will find we have the courage to change our approach to education so every child can be the best they can be. We are always honest and respectful to each other and, perhaps the most obvious thing you will find when you walk through the door, is that we value friendship. You will find me on the playground at the start and end of each day so please come and introduce yourself.  It would be great to hear some of your child’s successes both in and outside of school.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing with you how Queen Emma’s school will continue to build on the strengths recently recognised by OFSTED. Together we can transform the lives of children through inspirational education.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Matt Cuttle

A welcome from our Acting Headteachers:

Welcome to Queen Emma’s Primary School! We currently share the responsibilities of leading our wonderful school.

At Queen Emma’s we have designed an ambitious curriculum that gives all children the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. We start every term with a memorable experience that ignites passion and enthusiasm for learning. Our curriculum extends beyond the academic, by providing opportunities to develop and discover children’s interests and talents. Children are supported to develop their character and help them to know how to keep physically and mentally healthy – including resilience, confidence and independence. We prioritise reading, writing and oracy; children are taught how to read using the Read, Write Inc programmes, we explicitly teach vocabulary and are part of the Voice21 Oracy Leaders programme.

All of our children take part in the Daily Mile and have two lessons of sport a week. We are very fortunate to have lots of space, both inside and out which enables us to be flexible with groups and embrace outdoor learning.  We have an incredibly experienced and committed team who are relentless in ensuring our children’s needs are met.

We firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school, and we look forward to sharing this journey with you.
