Lower Key Stage Two 2025-2026
In Lower Key Stage 2, our Express Events give children the exciting chance to share their learning with their families in a hands-on and interactive way. At the end of each project, pupils showcase their skills, knowledge and creativity through activities that bring their learning to life.
Express Events can include cooking sessions, science experiments, art displays, or design and technology challenges. Families are invited into the classroom to join in the fun, take part in activities and celebrate the children’s achievements together.
These special sessions are a wonderful way for children to feel proud of what they have learned, build confidence, and enjoy quality time with their families while exploring new ideas. They also give parents and carers a chance to see the exciting learning happening every day in LKS2.
Autumn 1 Express: Fresh Food, Good Food:
To demonstrate their knowledge of fresh, healthy food, LKS2 invited their parents in to make fruit salad with them. The children suggested healthy ingredients, such as oranges, bananas and apples, as well as considering foods which are kept fresh in alternative ways, such as tinned pineapple. The children and their parents really enjoyed using these fresh ingredients to make a healthy treat to take home!
Autumn 2 Express: Contrast and Complement:
To showcase their artwork, the children put on an art gallery and invited parents to view their paintings. The children used contrasting and complementary colours, as well as different shape templates, to create eye-catching art.
Spring 1 Express: Yoga:
We invited our parents to do yoga with us. All of us got to teach a pose to the parents. We had to think of a way the move could be done by the parents who needed to sit on a chair. Then, we did a competition to see who could do the poses faster, adults or children.
Spring 2 Express: Misty Mountain, Winding River:
For our express event, we did a play called Misty Mountain, Winding River Extravaganza! We had to write lines about our learning from Misty Mountain, Winding River and there were two hosts who had funny lines and said what was coming up next.
Spring 1 Express: Dance:
Kilimanjaro performed three dances. One was a morris dance with claves and bells. One was a circle dance and the other one was a ribbon dance. Snowdon did a line dance and it had lots of Complicated steps. We were really proud to show off what we learnt to our parents and we think they really liked it!
Autumn 1: Fresh Food, Good Food
LKS2 had a fantastic afternoon welcoming their families into school for our ‘Fresh Food, Good Food’ Express Event! The children were so excited to share what they’ve been learning about healthy eating, nutrition and food preparation.
Working alongside their parents and carers, the pupils put their knowledge into practice by preparing and creating their own delicious fruit salads. There was plenty of teamwork, creativity and careful chopping on display, and the best part was enjoying the tasty results together!
The event was a wonderful way to celebrate the children’s understanding of healthy lifestyles and the importance of making good food choices. A huge thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the afternoon such a success!

Autumn 2 Express: Contrast and Complement
This term in art, LKS2 focused on the project Contrast and Complement. The children learned about colour composition and how artists use colour and 2D shapes in their work. They created their own pieces by selecting and combining shapes and colours to replicate work in the style of an artist.
To finish the project, parents were invited to the LKS2 Express art gallery. The children displayed their work and explained their ideas, choices, and the process they used to create their final pieces.
