Safer Internet Day 2026
Safer Internet Day 2026 took place on 10th February with the theme ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.’ This national event, celebrated in over 170 countries worldwide, encourages children and adults alike to think carefully about how they use technology and how to stay safe online.
Throughout the day, our pupils took part in a range of activities designed to help them understand how artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life. In their computing lessons, each class explored age-appropriate discussions around smart technology, including voice assistants, chatbots and how AI can be used both positively and responsibly. Pupils considered the importance of making safe choices when interacting with technology and reflected on how to question and evaluate the information they see online.
We also came together as a whole school for a special Safer Internet Day assembly. Through quizzes, discussion and role play, children were encouraged to think about real-life scenarios and how they would respond to them. These activities helped reinforce key messages about online safety, critical thinking and responsible behaviour when using digital tools.
Please read on to find out what each class did and how they celebrated!
Reception
Olympus
Olympus class learnt about how to stay safe online and talked about what technology we access at home and school.
We shared a story about Smartie the Penguin who got a new tablet for his birthday. We talked to our partner about what we thought he should do when he something frightened him and a link to a new game came up. We knew that we should always find a trusted adult to help and not try to fix it ourselves!
At the end we did a quiz to see how much we had learnt!
We have explored a range of suitable games to play online at home and have sent the links for these on Tapestry, please enjoy!

Child’s voice:
My brother played a game and it was ascary one. I practice my numberblocks and iplayer.
I’m only allowed on kids you tube not grown up one.
We Know you have to stop and tell if you are worried.
Key Stage One
Today, KS1 children took part in Safer Internet Day, learning about voice assistants and how technology can help us in everyday life. Through a story, discussion, and creative activities, the children explored what voice assistants can do – and importantly, learned that they are not real people and do not have feelings like we do.

The children enjoyed comparing what humans can do against what technology can do, helping them to develop safe and healthy attitudes towards using digital tools. A great start to understanding technology in a thoughtful and age-appropriate way.

Children’s voice
Shanaya – It can not eat and it needs to charge and they need internet. Humans don’t need to charge and they can walk.
Serena – Voice control can talk to you but can not watch tv or play games.
Humaira – Voice control can turn off the lights.
Ori – Humans can go on bike rides.
Sienna – Humans have to go to the toilet.
Lower Key Stage Two
For Safer Internet Day, our learning focused on online safety, with a particular emphasis on chatbots and how artificial intelligence works. The children explored what AI is and how chatbots are designed to respond to questions, helping them understand that these tools are created by humans and rely on information they have been programmed or trained to use.

Through discussion and activities, the children considered the many ways chatbots and AI can be helpful, such as answering questions, supporting learning, and providing ideas, while also recognising that the information they give is not always accurate or appropriate.
We also focused on how to stay safe when using digital tools. The children learned why it is important to protect personal information, avoid sharing private details, and speak to a trusted adult if something online makes them feel unsure or uncomfortable.
