Mental Health Awareness Week 2025

The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year was Community

Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us, we are not alone. Communities can provide a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times, and give us a sense purpose.

To celebrate the power of community, each class spent time this week in PSHE completing activities surrounding the theme.

Olympus

Olympus have been learning about the importance of community as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. We designed a town and incorporated all the elements of our school and home community that are important to us. The children drew pathways and roads to connect the areas of their life. We built models of homes and schools using Lego and blocks and then drew the footpaths to familiar shops and parks.

We were thrilled to see all the connections and then added our friends to our community as they were important to us and part of our support network. The children used ribbons and string to connect the elements of their community life.

Blencathra

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Blencathra reflected on the importance of community.

We began by thinking about the many people within our school and shared what makes each of them special to us.We then looked beyond the school gates and talked about those who are important to us in the wider community. Our friends, families, neighbours, and others who play a role in our lives. Together, we explored how these special people support our wellbeing and how we, in turn, can support theirs.

"Miss Cooper is special to me because she always makes sure I have a school lunch" Penelope

"My mum is special to me because she always cooks my dinner" Ashirai

"My cousin is special to me because they always play with me" Poppy

Ben Hope

Ben Hope explored how our community is made up of people in the same way as a tower is made up of bricks. Our building blocks are the people who build us up, helping us to be better and happier people. The children gave a name to each of their building blocks and discussed how these people help make their community a safe, happy space.

We discussed how we are all different but make up a community within our class. The children wrote on 'The Pieces of Me' identity sheet and it was lovely to see the children seeing that a lot of them enjoyed and like the same thing.

Everest

During Mental Health Awareness Week, Everest Class explored the importance of community and how we are a small, supportive community within our classroom. We played a team-building game of 'Minefield,' where we helped each other navigate a field without touching any cones. We quickly realized that this task was impossible without the encouragement and support of our friends. In addition, we began working on a collective piece of artwork, each painting our personal interests onto the same canvas to represent how, despite our differences, we can come together to create something beautiful as a team.

Year 5 and 6 joined forces for our learning for Mental Health Awareness week. Throughout the week, we discussed what community means to us, means to each other, and means to others. We found lots of different similarities and differences between our community values.

In our joint project, we created our own 'community', drawing all of the buildings and people who make our communities important.
