World Book Day

KS1

KS1 celebrated World Book Day by looking at the front covers of different books and talking about what we could see. We discussed the pictures, colours and titles and made predictions about what we thought the stories might be about.

After this, the children shared the books they had brought from home with others on their table. They talked about why they liked their book and what happens in the story.

Finally, the children chose their favourite book and recreated the front cover using drawing and colouring. They carefully looked at the details on the cover and tried to include the characters, title and key features.

Ruby - “I saw a dragon on the front cover so I think the story is about a dragon.”

Jacob - “The pictures help to guess what the story might be about.”

Amira - “I liked showing my friends my book from home.

Ava-May - "I tried to copy the writing on my book cover because I like the style."

KS2

In KS2, the children marked World Book Day by coming to school in their pyjamas and sharing the book they had chosen to represent. As part of the day’s activities, each pupil also wrote an advert for their book, focusing on what makes it engaging and why others might want to read it.

The adverts showed clear thought about audience, purpose and persuasive language, and the children enjoyed recommending their chosen texts to their peers.

Teacher Swap

Our favourite part of World Book Day was the teacher swap. Class teachers visited other classrooms around the school and shared their favourite books with them.
